Write on Film was created to highlight and promote the wealth of excellent independent/ world/ retro/ cult film related events in the fair city of London, because theres a big ole beautiful world outside of the local mulitplex.
What on Film? At the moment we’re still getting the nuts and bolts of this place into shape, but as we go along and figure out the best way to have this place set up we’ll still be posting information on events/ festivals coming up shortly. On the main blog page you’ll find all the highlighted events and news.
When on Film? If you want to search for an event by date then simply hover your mouse over our diary of events on the right hand column of the site (if you click on a set day then it will bring up all the excellent events WOF has highlighted for that day). You can also subscribe to the calendar feed on your ical so you can see all upcoming events without setting one cyber foot on the site.
Where on Film? If you’re having a hard time locating some of the venues in and around London then head over to our ‘Venues Map’ tab which which pin points some of the best independent film venues in this fair city (and if there’s one you feel is missing then let us know why it should be included and we’ll drop it in).
Why on FIlm? I guess there were a few ideas that lead to the creation of W.O.F. The lack of blogs covering independent film releases in the UK. The shrinking exhibition space for independent and world cinema in London. All this in mind I wanted to make a site that would be able to help get those interested in good cinema to find out about the wealth of events and screenings in London- Events that a lot of larger commercial sites consistently fail to highlight. I’d love someday to expand W.O.F. beyond London and into the UK regions- but need to build up some reliable volunteer contributors to do so.
Who on Film? Myself, Marie Foulston, am the founder and editor of W.O.F. In my other life I work as the online co-ordinator for Soda Pictures. Current contributors to the site include Frances Harvey & Ben Metcalf- and as some of you may know are also Soda bods. However I’d like to make it clear that W.O.F. was not set up to purely promote Soda films. Each week we’ll strive to bring impartial reviews and news. Yes from time to time a Soda films will get a nod - but only when we feel its right to. I’m also always on the scout for other like minded people to contribute to the site, so if you want to volunteer then I’d love to hear from you.
